Ripperolgy; Fact and fiction
Hi guys, Sorry for the delay on this information but here it is.
Ok just to prevent any risk of plagerism i'll give the full reference.
Odell, R (2006) Ripperology, Kent State University, Ohio
In the first section; The Murder Fact File 1888 the book give a brief summary of each of the murders the first being Mary Ann Nichols. it states the date and time she died (Friday 31st August at 3;40 am) the text also desrcibes the crime scene such as pisition of the body, who found the victim and gives a brief description of the multiation, the suspects, and information on the inquest).
the same information is given on page xx for Annie Chapman.b she died on saturday 8th september at 6 am at handbury street, spitalfields. further information shows that Ammie was found in a garden and there were2 prime suspects. Information on the inquest and mutliation were provided and also a jury's virdict on page xxi says the verdict was "willful murder against some person or persons unknown." this is the same verdict given by the jury's for all five of the murders.
The third victim was Elizabeth Stride was 45 and found in Berner Street at 1 am. like the other victims her throat was cut however there was no mutilation which was put down to the killer being disrupted by a pony and cart.
the forth murder was Cathrine Eddowes (also known as kate kelly) who was 46 and found in Mitre Square, Aldgate at 1:45 am. Again the throat was cut and the body was mutilated including the disappearence of her Kidney and uterus. However shortly after the murder writting was found on a wall entry of wentworth Model Dwellingings in Goulston street.
under neath was a peice of torn cloth from the victims apron and it was covered in blood.
The fifth victim was Mary Jane Kelly ( aka Marie Jeanette). she was 24 and was the only victim to have been murdered inside. She was found in number 13 Miller's Court, Dorset Stree, Spitalfields. she is suspected to have been killed between 3;30 and 4 am. this was arguably the worst of the mutilations however according to Odell there no evidence of a struggle. Again the jury's verdict was the same as all the other murders and suspects were selected but as for all the other murders no charges were brought to any suspects and as we know the killer has never been found.
I know that everyone in the group probably knows these facts but is there any major discrepences with the information you have found.
Ifiguered that if we can compare notes and facts on the blog before thursday then maybe we can find more angles to do our presentation on.
Any way i hope this information is of some use and sorry for any possible spelling mistakes its been a long day at work.
